A Rat’s Quest: The Way Back Home is the kind of game that really sinks its teeth into you. You play as Mat, a tiny rat trying to survive a giant human world while chasing love, danger, and probably several forms of cheese-related trauma. The platforming is surprisingly smooth, the world design is mouseterful, and every kitchen appliance feels like a Dark Souls boss when you’re rodent-sized.

The story is honestly pretty heartfelt too. I came for the rat puns and stayed because I got emotionally rattached to these little sewer goblins. Sure, a few sections can feel a bit ratpetitive, but the atmosphere is so charming I barely squeaked about it.

Overall, this game is absolutely worth scurrying into. It’s funny, weirdly emotional, and one of the few games where getting chased by a broom feels like a life-or-death ratastrophe.

9/10 — a real masterrat piece.
